Joseph Haydn moved to Vienna to be a choirboy in 1740, learning his musical skills at St. Stephens for nine years until his voice broke. As an adult he became Kapellmeister for the Esterházy Court where he remained for 30 years.
It was during this time he wrote the Opus 76 Quartets - some of the 68 that he wrote in all. He is often referred to as the 'father of the string quartet' due to the important foundational contribution he made to the genre.
This quartet is an example of his more mature writing with equal parts for all four instruments in the group.
The members of Jerusalem Quartet are: Alexander Pavolvsky (violin), Sergei Bresler (violin), Ori Kam (viola) and Kyril Zlotnikov (cello).
