A few weeks ago, RNZ Concert's Bryan Crump brought you a Moment of Calm featuring the bell ringers of St Paul's Anglican Cathedral in Wellington.

This week's "sonic moment" comes from another religion. If you've ever visited an Islamic country, you might remember the magic of mosques calling the faithful to prayer, with all the Imans and the loudspeakers within earshot combining to create a miasma of sound.

Crump made such a recording when he covered the New Zealand commemorations at Gallipoli in 2000, but alas, the cassette he made it on is lost.

So big thanks to his friend Mel Ihan, who runs a tourism business taking New Zealanders to Turkey, who made a recording of the Mosques of Istanbul for us, so you can enjoy a little bit of overseas magic without leaving home.
