A very special "Sonic" Moment of Calm this week; it came from a listener, Fernanda.

Having heard a few of Bryan Crump's "Three to Seven" recordings of birds, bush, sea and the like, Fernanda thought she would capture the birds singing in the Rowan trees near where she works, at Invermay, near Mosgiel in Otago.

This is some of what Fernanda had to say about her recording;

"These Rowan trees are massive and in summer produce berries that the ducks adore, and in winter are completely devoid of leaves.

I was in the parking area ...... and the birds were in these trees, trilling a twitting away, on a very wet and cold morning.

At the moment we don’t have rain, but the frosts have been something else… WOW… how the poor birds survive in these extremes is an absolute incredible achievement of avian physiology.

This morning, I was trying to record 2 tui that were having a great conversation in these denuded trees, but as I was gearing out to record, a car came by, they got spooked and the magic moment was lost. I shall have to try again. Some of the tui here are the size of NZ pigeons, they are massive, and their repertoire would put any opera singer to shame"

Thanks so much Fernanda!
