John Donne wrote it tolls for all of us.
And while bells can sometimes mark more than just the passing of time, RNZ Concert host Bryan Crump reckons they add a sense of calm to any town or city, or rural area for that matter.
So when Crump found himself staying across the road from the Auckland Town Hall, he made sure to capture the bells as they marked eight o'clock on a quite Sunday morning.
The great thing about the web is you can listen to them any time of the day or night.
