The NZSO Todd Young Composer competition has been on this week in Wellington. It’s an opportunity for eight young New Zealand composers to have their work rehearsed and recorded by the NZSO over a two-day residency, and there are prizes for best composition and the orchestra’s choice award.
This year Josiah Carr took both prizes, for a work that portrayed five distinct personality types.
Kirsten Johnstone went backstage to talk to the composers and conductor Kenneth Young about their work .
