Vanuatu's acting commissioner of the police, Aru Maralau has appointed a special team to investigate allegations relating to the bankrolling of opposition MPs by the opposition leader Moana Carcasses.

This comes amid reports that Mr Carcasses has deposited about 170,000 US dollars into opposition MPs' bank accounts.
Mr Carcasses has only confirmed to local media that there is a loan scheme to members of his the Green Confederation party.
However, the Prime Minister's first political advisor, Georges Iapson urged the police to look into the allegations, including claims that 360,000 US dollars vatu has been paid to the account of Mr Carcasses' spouse.
Mr Iapson says the government of Joe Natuman is concerned by the bank transferrals, especially given Mr Carcasses' ongoing moves to advance a motion of no-confidence against the Prime Minister.
Mr Iapson has also questioned the source of the Green Confederation's financial coffers.
