After a postponement of four months and several setbacks, including protests by unpaid workers, Northern Marianas latest casino is now open.
The casino at the Imperial Pacific Resort complex finally opened on Saipan last Thursday.
Owners Hong Kong-based Imperial Pacific International Ltd opted for a quiet opening, with a more elaborate launch planned for later in the year.
So far, the $US550-million casino resort can only open its 140,000-square-foot gaming floor, which once fully operational is expected to include more than 70 gaming tables and 190 electronic gaming machines.
Stage 1 of Imperial Pacific's promised $US7-billion integrated casino resort includes the still unfinished 330-room hotel attached to the cavernous casino facility, - the framework of which is in stark contrast to the grandeur of the casino itself.
