CNMI governor Ralph Torres announced that the US Senate has passed Northern Mariana Islands US Workforce Act of 2018.
After another round of meetings in Washington between Senate staffers and his staff, Torres said his administration bill, also known as H.R. 5956, passed in the Senate with unanimous consent and will be sent to President Donald Trump to be signed off.
Torres said they also held meetings with the White House and had been assured that the President will sign the bill within 10 days of it being passed.
Thew act extends the CNMI-Only Transitional Worker classification permit program through 2029 and further strengthens ongoing local initiatives to develop the CNMI's US workforce.
