A Papua New Guinea judge is to sit on the new Nauru Court of Appeal.
This was revealed when PNG's Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia and Nauru's Chief Justice Filimone Jitoko signed a memorandum of understanding this week for five years of judicial cooperation.
The memorandum also allows for the exchange of technical and other expertise from PNG to Nauru.
Nauru announced the establishment of the court this week, ending the island's dependence on the Australian High Court as its final appellate body.
The yet to be named PNG judge will join the Chief Justices of Kirbati, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu in the Nauru court.
