Fiji police says the methamphetamine allegedly tampered with at the Totogo Police Station in Suva on Friday was not linked to the evidence from the January meth raids in Nadi.
On Tuesday, Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew confirmed to local media that a report had been lodged by the Central Division crime officer concerning the alleged tempering of meth.
In a statement to RNZ Pacific, Assistant Commissioner of Crime, Mesake Waqa said the investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters have taken over the investigations.
"The evidence in question is not linked to the methamphetamine bust in Nadi, but a case recorded within the Southern and Central Division, whereby a woman has already been produced in court in relation to the incident," he said.
Police did not respond to RNZ Pacific's specific questions about what they mean when they said the drugs have been tampered with and if it meant a portion of it was now missing.
The Fijian public are expressing scepticism on online platforms in response to news articles saying there are "not surprised" about drugs been tampered with and the capacity of the police to store the drugs safely.
Police also did not provide a comment on the specific question about the peoples concerns.
Chew has warned that any officer found to be colluding or aiding those involved in the illicit drug trade will be removed from the force.
