Nauru and Kiribati sign agreement to boost air connectivity

The governments of Nauru and Kiribati have signed an agreementaimed at boosting their aviation sector.

A memorandum of understanding was signed by the presidents of both Micronesian nations on 1 February, according to a statement from the Nauru government.

The agreement, described as a "significant milestone", is designed to improve the aviation sector through information exchange, expanded transportation services, and better safety and infrastructure for both nations' citizens.

The Nauru government said preliminary discussions were held last month, and the draft agreement was finalised by Nauru Air Corporation and Kiribati's Transport Ministry.

"President [David] Adeang reaffirmed Nauru's dedication to enhancing bilateral relations.

"While President [Taneti] Maamau expressed gratitude for Nauru's continued support and for the invitation extended to Kiribati to participate in the Nauru Independence celebrations."
