Football

A goal from Limas Erikan has seen Vanuatu beat Solomon Islands in the PacificAus Four Nations football tournament.

The victory sees Vanuatu take third place overall.

Australia's under-20 team, the Young Matildas, beat Thailand 5-2 on Tuesday to win the tournament.

Vanuatu's Jane Alatoa was named Pacific player of the tournament following a string of impressive performances.

Volleyball

The Vanuatu women's beach volleyball team finished second at the weekend's New Zealand Beach Tour tournament in Auckland.

Linline Matauatu and Majabelle Lawac lost 2-0 in the final.

The team moves to Tauranga this weekend for the next leg of the series.

Vanuatu Beach Volleyball said it is important that the team continues to finish in the top four to gain maximum points, so they can compete in other tour events.

Rugby

The Flying Fijians will play four tier one teams in test matches during the 2025 rugby season.

Fiji Rugby said the four matches will be against Australia and Scotland in August, and then France and England in November.

Chief executive Rovereto Nayacalevu says they are now working on confirming the tour arrangements for matches against England and France.

The Fijians will also meet Samoa, Tonga and at least two teams out of Japan, Canada and the USA in the Pacific Nations Cup series in August, plus a match against Spain in November.

Rugby

Coach Mata'afa Ramsey Tomokino of Penina Pasifika says players must choose to represent their home countries to qualify for the team.

In collaboration with Rugby Australia and the Australian government, the Penina Pasifika program provides pathways for Pacific women in rugby, offering playing and professional development opportunities.

The team is aiming to qualify for the Super W competition and currently plays warm-ups against those teams.

This year's Penina Pasifika squad features 17 Samoan and 13 Tongan players.

League

Rabbitohs halfback Lewis Dodd and Bulldogs forward Josh Curran will miss round 1 of the NRL season after pleading guilty to offences committed in the warm-up round.

The pair have both pleaded guilty to grade 2 careless high tackles.

Meanwhile, Storm prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona will only miss one game at the start of the 2025 season, after it was ruled that New Zealand's three Tests in the Pacific Championship would count as part of his five-game ban.

Asofa-Solomona sat out last year's NRL grand final after being found guilty of a grade 3 careless high tackle in the preliminary final against the Roosters.
