The Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands' delegate in the US House of Representatives Kimberly King-Hinds, along with several of her colleagues in the 119th Congress, met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office this week.
King-Hinds said she looked forward to collaborating with Trump and his administration "as we level-up the CNMI and bring in the Golden Age of America".
The first-term congresswoman, who like Trump is a member of the Republican Party, added that it was a pleasure to have the introductory meeting Trump to advance the CNMI's interests in Washington.
"I look forward to exploring new avenues for collaboration and working closely with his administration on our shared priorities for building a strong economy and strengthening our national security," she said.
King-Hinds, who recently returned to the nation's capital after a short trip to the CNMI, also had the opportunity to meet with Education Commissioner Dr Lawrence Camacho, who was in Washington to meet with US Department of Education officials following Trump's signing of an executive order dissolving the agency.
Camacho is in the nation's capital along with State Board of Education member Dr Dora Miura and key staff of the CNMI Public School System- Special Education Program director Donna Flores and Federal Programs officer Jackie Che.
"[It was good] to hear their concerns regarding the planned dissolution of the US Department of Education in an effort to shift funding and resources directly to the states and territories," she said.
"I am committed to doing everything I can in Washington to ensure that education funds be placed under the disposition of our Public School System and Northern Marianas College.
"This will ensure that these funds are managed by our education leaders and more importantly, expended for the sole benefit of all our students in the Marianas," she added.
