Papua New Guinea's women cricket team has won the invitational Twenty20 tournament in Port Moresby.

The Lewas finished the tournament on 10 points, the same as the Australa indigenous women's team - but PNG took the crown with a better net run rate, 1.6461 to 1.4221.

In their final game on Saturday, PNG beat Samoa by 94 runs.

Winning the toss and batting first, the Lewas put on 138/6 in their 20 overs, with Naoani Vare top-scoring with 30.

In reply, Samoa was all out for 44 runs.

Henao Jean Thomas took three wickets for PNG and Maiti Tom claimed two.

Vanuatu came third overall having picked up one win, with Samoa last as they were winless in six matches, with one of those washed out.

Cricket PNG said on social media that after a tough start, the Lewas bounced back with grit and determination.
