Former Flying Fijian Nemani Nadolo has weighed in on the new R-360 rugby competition.

Nadolo told Nesia Footy that it needs to be aligned properly.

"You can have any tournament, but when you're throwing serious cash like that, you want guys like World Rugby on board. It can allow players to actually play in it without risking their careers."

So far, multiple unions - including New Zealand and Australia - have told their contracted players they would not be selected for international tests if they play for R360.

Nadolo said he sees potential for the Pacific, particularly for players from Fiji and Tonga, who could earn significant money while still representing their nations.

League

Queensland league legend Allan Langer has heaped praise on Tonga's Isaiya Katoa, backing him to join the game's great halfbacks.

Katoa is set to take the stage on Sunday afternoon when Tonga plays Samoa at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Langer said he hasn't seen many young halves play as well as Katoa has at such a young age.

He said Katoa isn't just a good attacker but a great defender, kicks well and has a good overall game.

The Pacific Championships resume on Saturday, with the Cook Islands Moana playing the Tonga XIII and the PNG Kumuls playing the Cook Islands Aitu.

Australia's Jillaroos play Fetu Samoa on Sunday, also at Suncorp, before the Tonga/Samoa match.

Rugby

Manu Samoa's campaign to earn the final ticket to the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia will face the challenges of Belgium, Namibia, and Paraguay.

Paraguay is the final team to make it into the last qualifier event.

The final qualification tournament will take place in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, from 8-18 November, with games played over a round-robin format, where each team faces the others once.

The top finisher on the points standing after the three rounds will claim the 24th and final spot at the 2027 World Cup.

Manu Samoa takes on Paraguay on 8 November at The Sevens Stadium.

Next up will be Namibia on 13 November, with Belgium as their final opponent on 18 November.

Rugby

Australian rugby player Tabua Tuinakauvadra, who has Fijian heritage, is the 2025 Wallaroos Player of the Year.

At 22, she becomes the youngest ever to take out the award.

Australia Rugby said Tuinakauvadra has enjoyed an excellent 12 months in the gold jersey, featuring in all the Wallaroos' 11 games in 2025.

The Brumbies player said she is honoured by the award.

Papua New Guinea and Fiji dominated the Melanesian Cup basketball competition in Honiara .

The PNG men's team won the title for the second year in a row with a 68-61 victory over Fiji in the final.

In the women's competition, Fiji also retained their title following their 57-44 win over PNG.
