Fiji's National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDMO) is urging the public to stay on high alert for flash floods.

Warnings remain for the eastern half of the country's main island, Viti Levu, including Serua-Namosi, Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri and parts of Ra.

A flash flood alert also remains in place for the Northern Division, with officials warning that conditions could worsen as more rain is expected.

Authorities are advising people to keep up-to-date with official weather reports and to avoid crossing flooded roads, crossings or walkways, as water levels can rise quickly and become life-threatening.

"Drivers are advised to travel only when necessary and to exercise extreme caution, especially at night when visibility is low. With continuous rain recorded in the last couple of days and with already saturated soil, there are possible risks of landslides occurring in some areas," the NDMO advisory said.

It added the NDMO will continue to work with the Fiji MetService to monitor the current weather situation and issue advisories accordingly.

The FRA urged all pedestrians and motorists to exercise caution while travelling.

According to the Fiji Sun, 120 families in a settlement in Nasinu - about a 15-minute drive from the Suve CBD - have been without proper road access after their only footpath got destroyed by a landslide caused by heavy rain on Sunday.
