Hīkoi Speaking Our Truth
Documentary | Friday 18 October
History, Society & Culture
Hīkoi Speaking Our Truth is a new documentary that seeks to understand the events on 18 October 2004 around the passing of the Foreshore and Seabed Act – a piece of legislation still causing shockwaves 20 years on. The documentary is told through the voice of Tāmati Rimene-Sproat as he explores the political and cultural environment of the day; uncovers the stories, memories and motivations of key players within the hīkoi, examining the fallout and repercussions of that Act.
Hīkoi Speaking Our Truth will be released on Friday 18 October on rnz.co.nz and the RNZ YouTube channel. Made with the support from Te Māngai Pāho.
