The whitebait season has begun in most parts of Aotearoa but if you live on the South Island's West Coast, you'll have to wait another week and a half before you can legally fish for the delicacy. More and more whitebaiters are coming home empty-handed with four of the five species in decline. Is it the weather? Or is it the overuse of land, or a combination of both? We speak to fishers up and down the country.
