First Person - AJ Hackett Bungy has launched its newest experience today - the Nevis Catapault. RNZ Otago-Southland reporter Timothy Brown went along to experience the thrill.
Warning, colourful language in the videos and audio
Heights are a funny thing - in that if you fear them its funny for everyone else to see your reaction when confronted by a great drop.
Luckily, I wasn't alone in my fear of heights - it seems the media is a meek profession, and Clutha-Southland MP Hamish Walker cut a ghostly figure as he was lifted 130m above the Nevis Valley.
In contrast, AJ Hackett Bungy co-founder Henry van Asch was all smiles as he effortlessly wandered the precipice time and time again.
The Catapault is not a jump - as its name suggests, instead you are launched 150m across the valley reaching speeds of almost 100km/h and subjected to 3Gs of force.
It is intense, terrifying, and just about as much fun as you can have in a harness.
Mr van Asch officially launched the experience at 9.30am.
"It's a pretty unique feeling, surprising even. There's nothing else quite like it," he said.
He's not wrong. As someone who shook off their fear of heights I can confirm it is indeed unlike anything else.
