A new exhibition in Gisborne is taking the 2024 Te Tairawhiti Qualitative Report into the lived experiences of those who were impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle and turning it into art.
The research included 77 people across Te Tairawhiti and looked at the health and wellbeing impacts and how the community responded.
In Mowai: The Weight of Water, artists from the community have taken their experiences and turned them into sounds, objects, words and moving images.
Facilitator and curator Dayna Raroa says it's a way for the report to live on through creative expression.
