Fiordland locals offered incentives to bring in visitors

From First Up, 5:33 am on 1 September 2020

Fiordland locals are being encouraged to bring family and friends to the region during the school holidays - and they'll get a freebie in return. The area's been hit hard by the lack of tourism - so is hoping to get more New Zealanders visiting. But they also want to foster a sense of community - and get locals more aware of the great activities and places on offer. That means locals that bring out-of-towners to 17 businesses - ranging from tourism operators, restaurants, cafes, accomodation providers and the local cinemas - will get a freebie or a discount. Destination Fiordland general manager Madeleine Peacock explained 'host a holiday' to Lydia Batham.
