Cantabrians face huge cleanup, road closures, disruption
Large parts of Canterbury remain cut off from the rest of the country this morning after raging flood waters tore up highways, left bridges at risk of toppling, and tossed tonnes of debris onto roads. The Government has made half-a-million dollars available to support farmers who have been among the hardest hit with their winter feed stocks ruined, milk gone to waste and fences in tatters. Our reporter Ella Stewart has been navigating the muddle of road closures and squelching through sodden paddocks to find out how Cantabrians are coping. She filed this report.
