Wairoa vaccination rates slowing despite good start

From First Up, 5:17 am on 8 October 2021

The small predominantly Maori town of Wairoa in Northern Hawke's Bay has hit a roadblock with Covid vaccinations. Although it led the charge in Hawke's Bay and vaccinated quickly over lockdown, there's a group of the community that can't be convinced. 52 percent of Wairoa's population are fully vaccinated, but the numbers of first doses are slipping and falling behind bigger centres. Maori health provider Kahungunu Executive along with Queen St Practice, the only GP in town, have been vaccinating the community. Our Hawke's Bay reporter Tom Kitchin went to one of the vaccination clinics in the town. He met with Kahungunu Executive clinical lead Julie Duffell to ask her about the change in pace.
