Lake Ohau residents are hoping they will have the chance to pick over the remains of their homes this afternoon, with most of the village's 50 houses thought to have been destroyed in a fire that's been burning since the early hours of Sunday.

Fire and Emergency is still fighting the fire in the Mackenzie District township.
