New national cancer treatment service opens in Auckland
Some cancer patients will no longer need to fly to Australia for treatments. A new, national cancer treatment service opened in Auckland this morning to provide Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy, or PRRT, which helps manage neuroendocrine cancers. That involves attaching a radioactive medicine to a special protein and injecting it into the bloodstream, where it delivers a high-dose of radiation to cancer cells. Former patient May Leaoseve speaks to Māni Dunlop about flying to Australia for her first round of treatment.
