Debris on North Island roads will take days to clear

From Midday Report, 12:14 pm on 14 February 2022

Slips and debris on North Island roads will take days to fully clean up, and some households are still without power, after a weekend of wild weather.

Huge swells, high winds and heavy rain lashed parts of the motu from Northland, to the top of the South Island including Taranaki, Waikato and Wairarapa.

RNZ spoke to a Wellington resident who was woken up at 5am on Sunday when a slip came in through his bedroom wall.

And in Auckland 6,000 households or businesses are still without power.

Lines company Vector's chief operating officer Peter Ryan spoke to Māni Dunlop.
