The government has announced just over 500 courses of a monkeypox medicine will arrive in the country late next month.
No vaccine has yet been secured.
The World Health Organisation says there have been more than 41,000 cases of monkeypox and 12 deaths reported from 96 countries.
The associate minister of health Dr Ayesha Verrall spoke to Charlotte Cook.
