Australia considers white SA farmer migrants

From Morning Report, 8:20 am on 16 March 2018

Australia's Immigration Minister Peter Dutton is investigating how to bring white South African farmers to Australia on humanitarian grounds. Earlier this month the South African parliament supported a motion that would amend the constitution and could strip farmers of their land without compensation. Peter Dutton says white farmers facing land seizures and violence deserve special attention. South Africa has responded angrily to Dutton's offer, denying any aggression towards white farmers and saying Australia should have pursued more diplomatic channels. This offereing of help is in huge contrast to Australia's stance on immigration where asylum seekers are held indefinetly in offshore detention centres on Manus Island or Nauru. Australian correspondent Michelle Grattan joins us to discuss the situation.
