A former manager at Middlemore Hospital has spoken out about what he calls the 'bloody nightmare' of trying to maintain failing buildings and critical services like electricity, gas and sewerage. Greg Simpson was the facilities manager for the Counties Manukau DHB for almost a decade until the end of 2016. He told RNZ reporter Phil Pennington the board has huge problems not only because of deferred maintenance on leaky rotting buildings but also on the underground infrastructure which he warns is at the end of its effective life.
