Napier homelessness rises, all state homes full

A Napier woman who was turned down for more than 40 private rentals, says she agreed to live in a state home in the middle of a construction zone because she had no where else to go. Demand for state housing in the region has more than tripled over the past four years, with 449 homeless families currently on the wait list, and there isn't a single house vacant. The Salvation Army in Napier says it's increasingly tough for the region's homeless to find a permanant place to live, because rent is too expensive or there isn't simply one available.
