Retail and hospitality industry leaders are pushing back on new government advice that Auckland workers get two PCR tests in the next fortnight, regardless of whether they have any Covid-19 symptoms.
The suggestion is part of new surveillance testing measures in the city to catch asymptomatic cases before they spread.
The service sector says that PCR tests are too invasive, and that workers would be more likely to volunteer themselves to take a less aggressive saliva test.
They say workers are bearing the brunt of Aucklanders' lockdown frustration and that reports of threats and abuse from customers over masking and scanning requirements in stores are on the rise.
Retail NZ chief executive Greg Harford, and Hospitality NZ chief executive Julie White spoke to Corin Dann.
