Is National facing a second, dreaded fiscal hole - like the $4 billion budget mistake that blew up in the last election campaign.
The party said no, arguing the tax cut policy released at the weekend marks just the start of the plan National will take to next year's election.
That will include a commitment to scrap the 39 per cent top tax threshold - eventually - along with other taxes imposed under Labour.
But the government's telling National to put up or shut up, claiming there are already major problems with the numbers.
