Rising registration costs and the risk of Covid-19 are prompting some relief teachers to look for other work just when schools need them more than ever.
Official figures show there are more school teachers but the number working as relievers when other teachers are sick has dropped by a third in the past nine years.
That's left schools with nobody to staff classrooms during the current Covid-19 and flu outbreaks.
