Followers of the Rātana faith have gathered for the first in-person celebrations in two years.
Political leaders including incoming prime minister Chris Hipkins and Opposition leader Christopher Luxon are joining the event today.
The day also marks Jacinda Ardern's last public engagement as prime minister.
