Aucklanders are being urged to steer clear of the beach this Waitangi weekend.
Auckland Council says major floods have contaminated the waters and coated the beaches in debris making it unsafe to swim.
The Council's head of planning for healthy waters Nick Vigar spoke to Corin Dann.
