Jeremy Redmore - Clouds Are Alive

From RNZ Music, 3:05 pm on 26 July 2014

Jeremy Redmore, former lead singer of Midnight Youth dropped his debut solo album Clouds Are Alive this week - Nick Atkinson found out more.

Jeremy Redmore re-enters the music industry, able to be himself and without regrets about Midnight Youth. He says he left Midnight Youth, because there were parts of himself that he’d been pressured into censoring. After a few years he just couldn’t anymore.

He says there was a sense “four people who were sort of watching and making sure I did the right thing, because there was a danger that I’d revert to my geeky sort of introspective self”.

Back in the public eye, Redmore has just released his debut solo album, Clouds Are Alive.

He can now laugh about the tension he went through with Midnight Youth and says he has no regrets.  “Everyone was a bit miserable; it wasn’t a nice sort of environment,” he says.

It was Homegrown, March 2013, that Midnight Youth played their last show together. “We had a full room which was amazing and people singing the songs and really getting into it.”

“We got to ‘All On Our Own’ the closer, and I remember one of the guys, Nick, looking back at me and I could just see in his eyes like, ‘Why did you wanna turn away from doing this’?

“That was quite tough you know cause at that moment you could definitely see hundreds of people who are singing your song and you’re giving this excitement to them and you won’t be able to do that again. Not the same anyway, with those songs.

“At the same time, I don’t regret it all. Yeah, the last show was quite bittersweet.”
