The Justice Ministry is scrambling to fix a litany of failures in the digitisation of the Māori Land Court with a cost blowout three times the original budget.
Overhauling the Court's information systems was part of the 2019 Whenua Māori Programme, with approximately $8 million allocated for the project in Budget 2019.
But so far, more than $24 million has been spent and the system, supposed to be finished in October 2020 , is still not complete.
The problems are revealed in a new report from the Ministry, released to Nine to Noon under the Official Information Act.
It details a significant volume of complaints from users since the system went live, the whakamā or shame court staff feel since the rollout, and the increased workload it has generated for them.
