Day Breathes Night
Day Breathes Night seems to be the equivalent of one of those super-group sessions in the glory days of rock. It's an album released by Audio Foundation Records, and featuring some of our leading sound-artists and experimental musicians, with a guest star from the UK... Leading light is Phil Dadson, of From Scratch fame, here joined by keyboard deconstructionist Hermione Johnson and audio/visual artist Rachel Shearer. The British ring-in is internationally acclaimed composer/percussionist Simon Allen. But what attracted me to this project - frankly, I'm more rock and roll than experimental in my taste - was the fact that the instruments are basically made-up - uniquely invented ones. I'm joined by Phil Dadson on the line from the back of Rangitoto Island, and Hermione Johnson in our Auckland studio.
