The winner of the inaugural Michael Gifkins Prize for an unpublished novel was announced in Auckland at the Auckland Writers' Festival on May 19. The winner receives a publishing contract with Text and a $10,000 advance against royalties. The first winner is Ruby Porter, a 25-year-old tutor in creative writing at the University of Auckland, for her debut novel Attraction.
