9:05 Time makes the wineBetty-Anne's success with Ardijah and beyond

Some people think the band's name is her name - they're wrong - but the mistake is understandable. Ardijah's lead vocalist since 1980 has been Betty-Anne. At 15 years old, the singer joined a covers band after being spotted at a talent quest, Ardijah were soon writing their own songs and well - “time makes the wine" -  the Poly Fonk sound was born.

Now with over 40 years in Aotearoa New Zealand music, becoming a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit and opening the Auckland Arts Festival programme Betty-Anne chats  joins Susana Lei'ataua on Summer Weekends.

Joining the beach-goers this summer will be four and a half thousand volunteer surf lifeguards - who'll be doing all they can to keep swimmers and others at the beach safe.

We have 74 surf lifesaving clubs in Aotearoa so, at this time each Saturday, until the end of January, we thought we'd check in with one - to see if the surf's up and to hear what makes that club special.

Today we're off to Paekākāriki.  to New Zealand's Oldest Country surf club and speak to club chair Matt Warren

11:30 Fishing for the future

It's the time of the year when boats have been dusted off, tackle-boxes inspected, and fishing rods checked. LegaSea is an organization that focusses on restoring coastal fisheries and is asking people to think about how they spend their days out on the water so everyone can enjoy a spot of fishing in the future. Susana is joined by LegaSea's  CEO Sam Woolford to discuss the state of our coastal fisheries, the new app for fish head lovers, and new projects underway.
