Each week on Summer Weekends we're heading to the beach - not to swim or build sandcastles - but to check in with a few of New Zealand's 74 surf lifesaving clubs. Between them, the clubs rally 4-and-a-half thousand volunteer surf lifeguards, who are trained to keep swimmers, and others at the beach, safe. Today we're off to tiny Maketu in the Western Bay of Plenty to meet surf life saving club stalwart Merehini Meads.
