One seriously injured following Mount Maunganui workplace gas incident

One person has been taken to Tauranga Hospital after an accident involving gas in Mount Maunganui.

St John said it was called to the Newton St address at 1.30pm.

The rescue helicopter attended, but the person was driven to hospital Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition by ambulance.

Fire and Emergency also attended, and told RNZ an investigator had been called in.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said one fire crew was at the scene and an investigator had been called in to determine the cause of what appeared to be a workplace incident.
