It was billed as quite possibly the biggest labour action in more than 40 years.
More than 100,000 people walked off the job.
It was the latest in a growing series of strikes and walkoffs this year, but the sheer size of it means much of New Zealand will come to a halt.
There were some rally plan that changed due to severe weather.
