With international tourists back in the country and a promising summer on the horizon, the tourism industry has begun recovering and looking towards its future.
The industry was dealt a devastating, multi-billion dollar blow when the pandemic struck and borders closed, cutting off international tourists.
But tourism leaders are keen to look forward and not backward at the annual Tourism Summit Aotearoa in Hamilton beginning today.
The summit was last held in-person in 2020.
Tourism Industry Aotearoa chief executive Rebecca Ingram said the industry and businesses were recovering.
"Our very social industry is getting excited to gather together in person," she said.
"While the industry is rightly focused on the summer ahead, it's important to also look up and consider what's next."
The summit will also examine the role of technology in tourism experiences and the impact operators can have on their community.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Tourism Minister Stuart Nash will be among the guest speakers at the event.
