An Auckland woman who admitted to tax evasion totalling more than $1.4m has been sentenced to home detention.
Haitelenisia Kaumavae of Pukekohe, ran a business supplying workers to fruit and vegetable growers for harvesting.
Inland Revenue said her offending was "repetitive and pre-meditated".
She didn't file tax returns for four straight years, and either didn't file or sent false GST returns over three years.
There were also no PAYE returns for more three years.
In all, it amounted to $1,487,359.41.
Kaumavae admitted four charges and was sentenced in the Pukekohe District Court on Tuesday to nine months home detention.
She also had to pay $6500 reparation in weekly payments.
IRD told the court the case was an example of wilful and repeated fraud that deprived the public of substantial money.
The judge said Kaumavae's offending was serious but added cultural obligations meant she never profited.
