A three-car crash south of Whangarei left seven people injured, one critically, and caused temporary traffic delays.
One person was in a critical condition and six other people were treated in hospital after the crash on State Highway 1, at Waipu, about 9.40am.
A car was T-boned at the intersection of the state highway and Shoemaker Rd.
Four ambulances, the Fire Service and a helicopter attended.
The road was blocked at first, but had since reopened and the traffic was flowing normally, police said.
A towing company was called to remove two utes and a BMW.
There were two other minor crashes in Waipu - one on Rosythe Road where a person was hospitalised with moderate injuries, and one on Nove Scotia Drive.
