Police have shot a man while attending a family violence incident in Whanganui.

Police said they were called to the incident in Aramoho shortly after 7pm.
They said the man aimed a firearm at officers and was shot by a member of the Armed Offenders Squad.
Police said he was receiving medical treatment.
