Constable Ben McLean, 47, has been charged with his wife Verity McLean's murder, and the attempted murder of her new partner Garry Duggan.
Police said Ms McLean's family had requested privacy, but were considering a further public memorial service for her at some point.
Southern District Commander Superintendent Paul Basham said police had been touched by the support they had received from the Invercargill community.
The focus for police remained ensuring a meticulous, impartial investigation into the shooting, he said.
Mr McLean was discharged from hospital today and moved to Invercargill Prison.
