Police in Christchurch say they are speaking to a number of people in connection to a death overnight.
Cordons put in place shortly after 4am on Ferry Road between Bordesley and Aldwins Roads were lifted just after 3pm.
The body was found near Edmonds Park which is often used by homeless people.
Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Stewart says they are aware of speculation in the community, however the investigation is still in its early stages.
A formal identification process is under way.
