5:42 pm on 6 August 2018

Invercargill police have arrested a 24-year-old in connection to the shooting of a stranger in June.

A warrant was issued for the man a week after the shooting in Kelvin Street on 30 June and a nationwide appeal for information on his whereabouts was launched.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stu Harvey said the Armed Offenders Squad helped execute the arrest warrant in Miller Street about 11am today.

The police were not looking for anyone else, he said.

The man was due to appear in the Invercargill District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
